Overview

We start our walk through the history of Hamburg at Domplatz, the birthplace and nursery of Hamburg, and learn how Hamburg got its name. We learn why the cathedral square is called "Domplatz" and the "Hamburger Dom" takes place in a completely different place.

We then continue our tour to the Kontorhaus district, the former center of Hamburg's merchants, and its brick warehouse.
We take a look at the prima ballerina of the Kontorhaus under her pretty ballerina skirt and ask what saltpeter has to do with Hamburg's rise to become the largest port city in Germany.

We continue to the Speicherstadt, dive into the red brick gorges and their stories, clarify what Westphalia has to do with Hamburg and why workers lived in a castle there.

We find out what Schutenschupser and Ewerfuhrer actually did and why there are coffee barons and Persians in Hamburg.
